When driving in fog, roll down a window. You’ll hear cars coming before you’ll be able to see them.

Area rugs on tile or wood floor can be a safety hazard, but you can solve the problem without the need of a no-slip underlay. Run a bead of latex or silicone sealant around the backside of the rug, about an inch from the edge. Let it dry thoroughly before turning it over. The sealant will keep the rug in place.

When taking public transportation use well-lighted stops and try to arrive only a few minutes before your expected departure. Arriving just before prevents you from being studied as a potential target. Do not sit alone. When riding buses sit behind the driver and try to take an aisle seat to prevent the person next to you from holding you up with a weapon to your side and seating at the window would make it harder for you to escape. Before getting off at your stop scan it for any suspicious persons lurking around. If you spot one, don’t get off and wait until the next stop. Finally, do not sleep on the bus or subway and please stay alert at all times.

Always keep a record of all hang ups and harassing or bothersome phone calls. Do not engage or speak with the caller, instead hang up and call the Public Safety number. Never put your name or telephone number on your answering machine message.
