Edible Spoon Rest #4548
A spoon rest is a nice extra to have in the kitchen, but many cooks don’t want to bother with them. Just use a slice of bread. The bread catches bits of food and soaks up juices, in the process becoming a savory teat for the family dog (or the cook.)

Remove gas-producing sugars from beans #2416
Boil dry beans for three minutes … discard the cooking water … replace with fresh water… and let them soak six to 12 hours. Then rinse again and cook in fresh water.

Boiling eggs? #3386
Add two tablespoons of white vinegar per quart of water before cooking. This will prevent eggs from cracking and will also help shells to peel off easier.
