Perk of a Short Stroll #6379

Too much sitting raises the risk of stroke, but a new study at Indiana University in Bloomington points to an easy preventative solution: When subjects sat still for 3 hours, blood flow in heir leg arteries decreased significantly after the first hour. But people who walked for 5 minutes at the end of each hour did not have any drops in blood flow. Says study author Saurabh Thosar, Ph.D.: “Walking breaks of even 1 minute may increase blood flow, thus improving circulation and preserving artery health.”

Credit goes to enzymes in watermelon that prevent cholesterol buildup. Bonus: The watermelon group had 39% lower level of a marker of inflammation.
