Ticks – What to do if you get one #2413
Tick season - (April through the first frost)
When walking in wooded or grassy areas wear long-sleeved shirts and long loose-fitting pants tucked into socks.
If you find a tick on you or your pet, do not remove it wit alcohol, vaseline or a lighted match. These methods can cause the tick to regurgitate under your skin, raising your chance of illness. A better way is to use a tweezers and gently gasp the tick and pull it steadily outward at the same angle the tick is facing.
Keep the tick in a jar of alcohol, so it can be identified later if you develop a bull’s-eye rush or other suspicious symptoms.

Are your concentration and energy levels low in the afternoon? #4899
Noon food choices can affect your mid-afternoon energy. Try limiting afternoon fatigue with these ideas.
Choose complex carbohydrates such as whole grains and nutrient-rich fruits and milk instead of candy and other sweets. Carbohydrates are our body’s main energy source.
Mix carbohydrate foods with protein for long-lasting energy, such us whole-wheat pasta and marinara with a grilled skinless chicken breast, or combine whole-grain crackers and fresh fruit with low-fat cheese.
Drink enough fluids so that you rarely feel thirst and your urine is colorless or slightly yellow. Dehydration can cause you to feel fatigued.
If you have a desk job, save a few minutes from your lunch break to get up and move, even five minutes of walking will give your afternoon energy level a lift.

Have a splinter? #5513
Don’t use the sewing needle! Just cut a small piece of fresh onion and place it on the padded part of a bandage, wrap it around the splintered skin and leave it overnight. By morning, the onion will have drawn the splinter to the surface, making it easy to remove with a pair of tweezers.
