Beware of long-term usage of PPI heartburn drugs #6455
Proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) are popular for many digestives woes. They used to be perceived as super-safe, but over time disturbing complications have surfaced. These include kidney damage, dementia, fracture, pneumonia, diarrhea and certain nutritional deficiencies such as iron, B-12 and magnesium. Stopping suddenly can lead to rebound heartburn that may last for weeks. To avoid this withdrawal it’s better to stop gradually.
