Low-fat Nuts #2249

Nuts add crunch, great taste, and essential nutrients to all kinds of baked goods, but nuts also add fat. Fortunately you can halve the fat without halving the taste, just by toasting the nuts before adding them to your recipe. Toasting increases the flavor of nuts so much that you can often cut the amount used in half. Arrange the nuts in a single layer on a
baking sheet, and bake at 350°F for about 10 minutes, or until lightly browned with a toasted nutty smell. To save time, toast a large batch and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several weeks, or in the freezer for several months.

Cooking Vegetables? #2233

Storing breads, cakes and cookies #2355

A slice of bread in a cake tin will keep the cake moist.
When the bread dries out replace it with a fresh slice.
To keep fruitcake moist, put an eating apple into the tin when storing.
Put a cube of sugar into the cookie tin to keep the cookies crisp.

Keep veggies fresher, longer! #2397

When I buy vegetables like lettuce or cabbage I wash them and store them in a Tupperware for easy use, but I’ve found that they stay fresher a lot longer if you place a paper towel into the Tupperware along with the vegetables! The paper towel absorbs moisture and keeps your veggies fresher longer!
