Concerned about shaky hands? #5747
Even though shaky hands are one of many signs of Parkinson’s disease, they are more often a sign of a movement disorder called Essential tremor, which usually occurs only when you are using your hands to do something such as write or hold a glass and is not a sign of a more serious disease. Avoiding caffeine, reducing stress and getting more sleep help ease the tremors for many people. Nevertheless, if the shaking of your hands makes it hard to perform daily tasks, you should be tested to rule out other disorders.
Tremors from Parkinson’s are most prominent when your hands are at your side or in your lap.

The eyeliner “do” that prevents infection #6375
In the first study of its kind, scientist reporting in the journal Eye & Contact Lens discovered that applying eyeliner inside the lash line causes 30% more particles to move into the eyes within 10 minutes, compared with when eyeliner is applied to the outside of the lash line only. Why it matters: Eyeliner particles can accumulate in the thin film that coves the eye and cause excess tearing, sensitivity and infection. In contact wearers, particle buildup was also linked to blurred vision.

Know your sunscreen for a healthy skin. #5738
Preventing skin cancer is better than treating it. An SPF (sun protection factor) rating 15 – filters 93 percent of UBV (Short-wave rays) SPF- 30 filters 97 percent of UBV and SPF- 50 filters 98 percent of UBV. Also when choosing sunscreen, look for protection against UBV and long-wave UVA rays (there is no SPF-type measurement for UVA protection). Look for sunscreens with avobenzone, oxybenzone, mexoryl, zinc oxide or titanium oxidide as an active ingredient.
Note that sunscreen is best used to protect your skin when you can’t avoid the sun, not to extend your time in the sun, and how well it safeguards depends on how you apply it. 20 to 30 minutes before going outdoors apply 2 tbs or 1 oz to cover your entire body and reapply every 2 hours after swimming or getting sweaty, (even when cloudy) no matter what SPF you use. Extra care should be taken to protect infants and children – excessive sun exposure to the sun during childhood has been liked to high risk of skin cancer.

Brainpower booster #6564
Taking care of your teeth can help keep your brain sharp, report scientists in the journal PLOS ONE. They used cognitive and dental health tests to assess people with Alzheimer’s disease, and then evaluated them 6 months later. The results: Cognitive decline among people who had gum disease at the start of the study was 6 times greater than in those with healthy gums. The study authors say gum disease triggers a rise in body-wide inflammation that may impact the brain; a theory supported by prior research in which gum infections performed worse on tests of memory and mental function.
